‘Violent’ Uyajola episode has fans up in arms – BCCSA to investigate

Moja Love’s controversial cheating show Uyajola has landed in hot water yet again as viewers lodged complaints of “violence and strong language” with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA)

Some viewers were left fuming after last weekend’s episode of the reality show, which is based on the hit US series Cheaters.

Viewers watched in shock as a man who was accused of cheating on his wife was beaten to a pulp by the wife and his side chick, while bodyguards didn’t do much to save him.

TshisaLIVE reports that the BCCSA has confirmed that it had received complaints over “gender violence, violence and language”.

“At this stage I can confirm that we have received complaints and that we will consider the complaints as soon as we receive MultiChoice’s response on the matter,” BCCSA registrar Shouneez Martin said.

MultiChoice told the publication that is working with Moja Love to address the complaints.

Over the last few months Moja Love has come under fire for its show’s content and has been accused of “degrading black people” several times

During an interview on Metro FM in May, Moja Love head of production Bokani Moyo said that the channel was showing uncomfortable truths.

“We are showing uncomfortable truths. It is true we live in a time, or society, where households are headed by women and the fathers of these children are nowhere to be found, or are not in the picture for whatever reason,” she said.

I have realised that gender based violence only matters when its against women. A man was violated on Uyajola 9/9 by two women regardless of the reasons but the whole South Africa was laughing simply because he is a man. If it was the other way around will we be laughing? https://twitter.com/akreana_/status/1081598051322679297
